Our Story & Purpose · Est. 2006

We didn't find this land. We fought for it.

Since 2006, conservation has been our strategy, our business model, and our reason for existing in the Bajo Madre de Dios corridor.
Every trail, every cabaña, every cacao tree is the result of a fight that never stopped.
THE ORIGIN · 2006–2018

It started with 2,300 hectares and a conviction very few shared.

2006
The founders of Ecolucerna Lodge grew up with a deep commitment to the land — and an equally deep concern for the people who depend on it. Long before the lodge existed, conservation wasn't a cause they supported. It was the direction every decision pointed. In 2006, they began pursuing formal conservation rights over more than 2,300 hectares on the Las Piedras River, 109 kilometers from Puerto Maldonado — land with extraordinary hydrological and biological potential. In 2012, the State granted the concession. Six months later, it was rescinded. The land was reassigned to agricultural groups, who cleared it. This is the moment the real story begins.
2014

When the State wouldn't protect it, we bought it.

Rather than abandon the idea, in 2014 the founders took a different path: they privately acquired the current property in the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. Over the following years, they added state concession areas for conservation and ecotourism. Every structure was built around a single principle: the forest comes first. Tourism wasn't designed first and then asked conservation to fit around it. Conservation came first — and the experience was built from there. When you stay at Ecolucerna, you walk into two decades of quiet, persistent, non-negotiable commitment to this corridor. The 90-minute river journey from Puerto Maldonado is the experience, unfolding from the first moment the city disappears behind the river bend.
WHAT WE BELIEVE

Everything we do flows from four convictions.

01

Conservation before comfort

We design around the forest — not the other way around.
02

Community at the center

The Bajo Madre de Dios corridor belongs to everyone who lives within it.
03

Tourism that strengthens

Your stay funds reforestation and habitat protection in real time.
04

A living legacy

Adopt a tree. Volunteer. The rainforest remembers.
