Tambopata Essentials
Two days, one night, and everything Tambopata does best: forest trails by day, a river safari after dark, and Sandoval Lake at first light.
Itinerary
The journey begins when you arrive in Puerto Maldonado and are transferred to board an outboard boat along the Madre de Dios River to Ecolucerna Lodge (approximately 1 ½ hrs downriver). Upon arrival you will enjoy a tasty lunch made from organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch you will take a walk along the natural trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and secondary forest, its components, uses, man-made transformations, and its relevance to the world.
At the end of the day we will have an interesting excursion, sailing along the Madre de Dios River at night, to learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian ravines, and the behavior of nocturnal fauna on the river banks.
Returning to the Lodge you will enjoy a restorative traditional dinner.
Meals: Lunch and dinner
Today you will experience a day full of emotions. After a nutritious breakfast, you will prepare for a walk along the Tambopata National Reserve, which will take you to Sandoval Lake. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is known as the biodiversity capital of Peru. You will learn about the conservation work of the Reserve and the formation of the lake, sailing in a canoe through this body of water, home to the endangered giant otter, the blue and yellow macaw, and one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, the “Paiche”.
Our expedition includes a picnic lunch inside Sandoval Lake in a totally peaceful space facing the breeze of this body of water. This traditional dish consists of steamed rice and chicken cooked inside crisneja banana leaves, which we are sure will be a delight for your palate
In the afternoon, we leave the reserved area and return to the city so that you can continue your trip, our team will drop you off at the bus terminal, airport or at your accommodation.
Meals: breakfast & lunch.
A closer look
Included, and beyond
A short trip, not a shortened one
Two days is enough time to walk primary and secondary forest with a local guide, track wildlife along the Madre de Dios River after dark, and reach Sandoval Lake before the rest of Tambopata wakes up.
Built for a first look at the rainforest
If a longer stay isn't in your plans this time, Tambopata Essentials still puts you on the water at night and inside the reserve by day — no version of "seeing the rainforest from a distance."
